About Mattie
I attended my first yoga class full of doubt that I would benefit from the experience. My friend had been inviting me for weeks and I finally conceded. I was a dancer and athlete and I stepped into the yoga studio full of pride and confidence that I would master the class. What I experienced was quite the opposite. I left feeling humbled and had no desire to return. However, the studio issued all first time students a second class free of charge and, unable to ignore free services, I went back. Something shifted in that second class, I felt the power yoga possesses to heal and empower and I haven't looked back since.
I now practice yoga for happiness of mind, body and spirit. I apply this same principle to my teaching. Instructing with humor and understanding I meet every student where he or she is. My classes blend imaginative flow sequences and new perspectives on traditional postures to keep things interesting, challenging and fun. I believe that life is an obstacle course and that practicing yoga cultivates the insight needed to navigate it.
My studies with a diverse group of teachers encompass many styles. I hold a 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Certificate from Seven Centers Yoga Arts of Sedona, Arizona. There, I studied the art of Hatha Yoga from a holistic and traditional Vedic foundation. I also majored in Spanish Literature at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and my studies spurred international travel that, along with my intellectual pursuits, has added rhythm and depth to my classes.
The joy and transformation I see in my students inspires me to teach. If we aspire inward, we can inspire outward.
